While Dota 2 servers are down for 24 hour maintenance something extraordinary came out today - Dear Esther. While it’s pretty much a non-game (if there’s such term), it has to be one of the more hauntingly beautiful things I’ve laid my eyes on for some time. It actually makes you feel the coldness of the island and the inevitability of the story.
I couldn’t recommend it enough, even for 10$ It’s currently worth - http://store.steampowered.com/app/203810/.
Also in another gaming related news - Mass Effect 3 demo is out today, but there isn’t much to say about that.
So yeah, this just arrived yesterday. And it’s full of awesome. Something in me feels very happy about having part of the internet and gaming in physical hardcover form. While Gaming Heads stuff is quite a bit on the expensive side, this will do as my Valve related memorabilia for now.
Now, if only Valve could hurry up with Dota 2 and its comics so that we could get volume 2…
Be damned Battlefield 3! I’ve lost all will to game now. The time has finally come that my glorious overclocked q6600 finally shows its age and chokes on the awesomeness of BF3. What’s sad is that even my ATI 4870 seem to handle it fine on medium~high settings. I’m saying it based on how unusually quiet it is and also how nothing changes performance wise when dropping everything to low.
After seeing the amazing Caspian Border I’m fucking lost. I want it so bad, but 30 fps does not feel good. Not at all.
Time for full overhaul that means. Now if only I could find spare 800+ $…
At least on positive side of things I actually got to play some Caspian Border before its got closed down. And it was glorious.
So, hey! Did you hear the news? Internal beta of Crysis 2 leaked yesterday all over the place. And rather late beta version at that (signed 13th of January). Tho still with bugs, rather playable. As far as performance goes, well, saying “but can it run Crysis?” still stands strong.
But there’s one other thing that’s buggering me - everyone crying about how bad it is and how this only shows why PC gaming is dying. Well, you know what? Fuck you! Tho this is quite big and not everyday we get to see internal betas leaked, in the end of the day nothing is changed. It’s still quite far from finished product, so most you get it to sate your curiosity and confirm that no, your PC can’t handle Crysis. If anything it only helps the sales, as it gets more people talking about the game. Also, leak or no leak, I can guarantee you that it will be cracked and downloaded a million times first day it’s out. AND. May I point out that majority of pirates don’t buy their games anyway.
I’m not saying it’s ok, or whatever, but don’t act like this is the end of the world.
After initially having very little interest in COD:Black Ops, I finally decided to give single player campaign a go (not really that interested in multiplayer as I finally have decently performing Bad Company 2). And wow. Was that a fun thrill ride. Ridiculous but impressive almost from get-go. I mean, Vorkuta… whoa! Tho I have no interest in playing it again, it was a day well spent.
Even tho story wise it was nothing really new, but definitely an upgrade from Modern Warfare 2 (whatever the hell happened there). Also this time with 2x more lolz then previously. I mean, cmon. “You see that Hind? We’re going to take it!” and Hudson with his shades somewhere near the end. Only thing it was missing was The Who blasting in background.
Overall - day off well spent!
In other news, thanks to Steam’s Christmas sale I finally got Mafia II (Digital Deluxe edition at that) and DLC as well even despite the fact that I still haven’t bought new GFX yet after my 8800gts 512 semi-burned month ago. But, I mean, who can resist 75% off? Right?
Also, speaking of new year treats - I’m finally seeing Tron: Legacy this upcoming Thursday as it hasn’t yet opened here. Woo! Color me excited! \o/
