movies david fincher girl with the dargon tattoo

the girl with the dragon tattoo

Welp, I’ll admit that I haven’t yet seen Swedish version, but Fincher’s The Girl With Dragon Tattoo didn’t disappoint after all this waiting. Brutal, stylishly beautiful. It didn’t disappoint so much in fact that I sat through entire closing credits, though that’s partially because I was waiting for Reznors cover of Is Your Love Strong Enough (which btw sounded fantastic).

Also - this.

movies drive Carey Muligan

A Real Hero (Feat. Electric Youth)

College - A Real Hero (Feat. Electric Youth)

Drive (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack)

[Flash 9 is required to listen to audio.]

Just came to say Drive was awesome. Pure, beautiful and even inspiring from A to Z. Also nothing like the trailer. Think I wont be able to sleep tonight do to this being stuck in my head.

Oh, and also on a slight side note - Carey Mulligan.

So, yeah, when it comes to summer blockbusters leave it to Michael Bay. After second viewing today, I can say that this were the best movie out of three (by that I mean the most bombastic). It was just… Im struggling to find a better word - bombastic. Pretty much everything that first movie teased bot-wise, except full blown this time. Even some of the Bay-jokes in the oh-so-long middle part felt somewhat funny.

And dat 3D. If there ever was a movie that justified the medium, this is it. And I’m by no means biggest fan of 3D usually.

The only thing I found distracting was Shias new retarded girlfriend. God, she sucked the life out of every scene she was in. She even spoiled U2’s “North Star” premiere opening her mouth. God, I may have not been the biggest fan of Megan Fox, but she was much better in any front.

Summer is near. And this has got to be one of the most intense years when it comes to movies it seems. So far its seems like almost every week there’s something big coming out.

So far there’s been Thor, Fast Five. This week its time to see Your Highness, and then its time for Pirates of the Caribbean 4, followed by Hangover 2 and X-Men First Class. Literally - every week. After that tho it starts to space out bit. In 2 weeks Super-8 and after 2 more Bays masterpiece Transformers 3. Wooo! And to finish it all of there’s the final HP chapter.

Sheesh. Lets just hope that what’s still to come will be as fun as Thor and Fast Five was.

Ok, so it’s on. Just 33 days till Oscars and nominations are now out. Nothing really surprising for the most part. So lets quickly go over my expectations from what I’ve seen last year.

The Social Network should and will most probably take home Oscar for best adapted screenplay, director, music and probably editing. As far as best movie goes, I’ll abstain myself from any predictions there. Most of the nominees have deserved it (tho I’m still doubting about Kids Are All Right after seeing it few days ago, but w/e).

My second favorite this year Black Swan will probably earn Oscar for Natalie Portman… and sadly thats about it. Tho I love it to bits, its more like heart and mind thing - your mind says it won’t be the one. But, oh, how I would like to see Daren Aronofsky going home with Oscar this year. He has never disappointed me.

The Kings Speech will most definitely get an Oscar for Colin Firths amazing performance as stuttering king George IV and also most probably one for Geoffrey Rush in supporting role. Those two made one of the best on screen duos this year. Tho I wouldn’t be to disappointed if Christian Bale won it for his role in The Fighter.

Another of my favorites, True Grit. Well, I see it earning Oscar for Hailee Steinfeld as best supporting actress, and possibly for best art direction and costume design. Tho both those nominations are rather… unimpressive.

Lastly onto special effects category, which leaves me bit lost. Only possible winner is see here is Inception. Other had either mediocre effects or… or… I don’t know. I mean, Alice In Wonderland and Iron Man… Yawn. Where’s Tron: Legacy and Scott Pilgrim? And, actually, where’s Scott Pilgrim in film editing category? But anyhow - when it comes to special effects it wouldn’t be the first time for some weird choices when it comes to academy. Remember the year Golden Compass won over Transformers?

There are some more categories, but this was what I mostly had to say about it all. Looking forward to another Oscar night on big screen this year.

movies black swan

black swan in hd? yes please!

According to latest press release from FOX they are releasing some of their screeners, namely 127 Hours, Black Swan and Conviction on iTunes for SAG members to download. While I pretty well know all three of those movies have leaked already, I sure as hell would like to see Black Swan in highdef and with at least some 100’000 members having access to those screeners I’m thinking there will be at least one dare devil/moron to his version up on torrents or whatever.

too good not to reblog it!

Carter Burwell - One Against Four

True Grit (Soundtrack from the Motion Picture)

[Flash 9 is required to listen to audio.]

Well, if True Grit wasn’t amazing! Sincere, brave, funny and somewhat old fashioned (in a good sense). Tho I would have loved to understand half what Jeff Bridges said. And speaking of Jeff Bridges - hes a legend!

This was one of those movies, that in the end leave you looking bluntly at the screen with just one thought in your mind - “and your point was…?”. Ok, perhaps not totally so, thanks to Carey Mulligan, but talk about lack of payoff. It desperately tried to bring some huge none-existent message across with its heartbreaking story I’m not even sure creators themselves believed in/got it.

Yes, performances from Carey Mulligan, Keira Knightley and Bambi… I mean, Andrew Garfield were great, visually it was beautiful, but all together not so much. Even tho I guess having made me feel slightly depressed in the end it wasn’t complete and utter failure it can still be summed up with “ambitious but rubbish”.

One thing it did, was leave me wondering how will Garfield handle Spiderman?

mafia II games tron movies

second post of 2011!

In other news, thanks to Steam’s Christmas sale I finally got Mafia II (Digital Deluxe edition at that) and DLC as well even despite the fact that I still haven’t bought new GFX yet after my 8800gts 512 semi-burned month ago. But, I mean, who can resist 75% off? Right?

Also, speaking of new year treats - I’m finally seeing Tron: Legacy this upcoming Thursday as it hasn’t yet opened here. Woo! Color me excited! \o/

Oh man, oh boy, oh man, oh boy. Black Swan was perfect… It was perfect. On pretty much every level. To the point that I almost felt the discomfort of loosing ones mind. Even tho it’s only been few hours since I saw it, I have a feeling it’ll haunt me for the next few days at the least, like every Aronofsky’s movie. And as such it definitely rates as one of (I would even say “the”) this years most impressive movies for me. Also kinda predict at least Oscar nomination for Portman as every little detail about her performance was flawless.

Just came to conclusion that as I’m overtly happy these days, I should organize Aronofsky movie marathon…

Oh, and, of course, lets not forget that scene ^^

harry potter deathly hallows movies

harry potter & the deathly hollow pt1

So, ok, last night I finally got around seeing Part 1 of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. And while I’ve never been a huge fan of the movies and this didn’t change anything in my top of this year’s movies, I must admit, that along with Prisoner of Azkaban it was definitely the best Harry Potter installment so far and also the best looking.

Alexandre Desplat - Tree of Life

Tree of Life

[Flash 9 is required to listen to audio.]

Presumably Alexandre Desplat’s score to the Tree of Life trailer. Goosebumps!
